Finally, after reseating a display connection and some careful soldering, it booted and started playing games. The fix ended up being a few wires that came loose during shipping. Testing various points and swapping components got closer to the root problems. So for to get inside to start troubleshooting involved a razor blade and patience. The original screw mounts had to be removed and the case glued back together to fit the DS motherboard. received the custom handheld from, which was somewhat damaged in shipping. Unfortunately, this mod lost touch screen functionality, limiting some of the games you can play. The chassis for this mod is a humble Gameboy color with a Gameboy SP screen tackled on the top to serve as the secondary display. Whether it’s turducken or a Nintendo DS inside a Gameboy, the result is always unexpected. Many holiday recipes and console hacks share a common theme: cramming a thing inside another thing. ![]() ![]() ![]() The sheer amount of dialogue certainly could make it difficult to give a good performance, especially when not given ample time and good direction. I do not envy the job of being an English voice actor for Triangle Strategy. Benedict, the advisor to the main protagonist of the story, always delivers his lines in the same way and with zero emotional tact. Most characters are sometimes overdramatic or too direct. Is it unfair for me to say this without further explanation? What do I mean when I say that the voice acting doesn’t “sound right?” Without getting too far into it, there are a variety of problems that keep the dialogue from feeling natural. Voice Acting, p.2, Something’s Just Wrong Here Their performances range from average to mediocre to just plain bad. But unfortunately, I don’t have much positive to say about the rest of the cast. The voice actor’s take on the cruel, politically conniving villain archetype, with his cool and level-headed tone, is interesting and well-executed. The voice of Gustadolph, the main villain of the story, stands out from the rest of the cast in a good way. That’s not to say there aren’t some well-acted lines. So, it has to come down to the more nebulous problem of whether the dialogue “sounds right.”Īnd a large amount of the English voice acting in TS just doesn’t (sound right). ![]() The thing is though, in a game like TS whose characters are represented by sprites, there really isn’t an issue of timing or lip-syncing. My thinking follows that my bias persists whether we are considering an anime or a game with Japanese voice acting. It also helps that, because I don’t understand the language of Japanese, it probably means it’s easier for me to let unnaturalistic dialogue go unnoticed. I feel that the show’s original voice actors usually have a better feel for their character’s emotional identity. I find that there is often an issue with lip-syncing and timing, and that the actors end up sounding awkward. I personally cannot stand English-dubbed anime. I think the arguments around the quality of English-language voice acting in Japanese-developed games follows a similar pattern to the dub-or-sub argument w/r/t anime. To me, the voice acting sticks out like a sore thumb. As such, it’s important to note that all of the criticism in this article regarding voice acting pertains only to the English language voice acting. Ideally, I would listen to the Japanese VA, but there is no option to switch the voice language in the demo (although I expect there will be in the final game). You can turn down the voice volume all the way to zero, and it doesn’t bother me to read lots of text, but because I’m the kind of masochist called “game critic,” I felt I was obligated to keep listening. This wouldn’t really be an issue for me if I was playing the game just to play the game. Let’s get this out of the way first: the voice acting in TS is its weakest component. Instead, it’s an analysis that seeks to answer the question, “What would it take to turn Triangle Strategy (TS) into a good game?”īriefly, there are a lot of promising things about TS, but the game is held back by bad voice acting and a slow story, among a few other things. The game’s release is at least a year out, so the primary goal of this article is not to review Triangle Strategy. ![]() Having played through the entire demo, my feelings about the game could be described as “mild interest” and “a general lack of excitement.”īut knowing my visceral reaction to the game and describing why I feel this way about the game are two very different things. The game looks nice, but does it play nice? What might the demo tell us about the final quality of the game? This article is me taking a stab at these questions. ![]() ![]() ![]() If you want to avoid the bird developing a loner temperament, you should handle and play with him often. Parrotlets are among the more longer living parrot species, and if their needs are met, parrotlet lifespan can last between 20 to 40 years. Interestingly, Green-rumped parrotlets are the only species without blue feathers on their backs. Of course, blue, yellow, and white parrotlets can be found in the wild and in homes. While there are many color mutations of this species of parrots, the males usually carry a dark blue stripe, while the female have darker green feathers with lighter feathers on their wings and backs.įemales can also display a blue or green streak behind the eyes. They also have the shortest individual wingspan of 9 and a half inches. An adult parrotlet can reach the length between 4 and half up to just over 5 inches (approximately 28.5 cm), and a healthy bird will not weight much over an ounce (33 grams). This playful bird is in fact the smallest species of parrots kept as pets. Because of this, be careful with parrotlets that haven’t gotten used to children, as they can carry a bite! Characteristics of Parrotlets Physical Parrotlets also display a fearless disposition, so you’ll want to be careful not to tease them, as they can get very defensive of their cages. The highly intelligent parrotlet needs a dynamic environment and lots of exercise, and when tamed they can be very affectionate birds. In captivity, you should feed them with species-appropriate kebbels and small amounts of cut fruit and vegetables. This flocking parrot is known for its foraging for seeds, fruits and vegetables in dry wooded areas, and you’ll want to feed your pet with a combination of small seeds such as oats, buckwheat, safflower and hemp in small amounts, sunflower seeds, green leaves and kibble. Other species that can be found in pet stores are usually either the Mexican Parrotlet, the Spectacled Parrotlet, or the Yellow-faced Parrotlet. Among the many varieties of parrotlets, the ones best suited for pets are members of the species the Pacific parrotlet ( Forpus coelestis ) and the green-rumped parrotlet ( Forpus passerinus ). Parrotlets’ personality, as being known to be one of the quietest, and their training potential help explain why it’s one of the more popular choices.Įndemic to South and Central America, this second smallest bird in the parrot family is a popular pet choice. This cheerful, but territorial bird is a great housepet, with a wide variety of subspecies and colorful plumages. The parrotlet stands to the side as one of the smallest species of parrots in the world, and is in fact the smallest parrot available in shops. The PS3 store inevitably will close down sooner or later, and unless Square provides a remake or rerelease, the only way to play Vagrant Story will be to hunt down a potentially expensive copy on eBay.Everyone uses their computer in different ways, according to their needs. Vagrant Story has never been updated or remade since its original release, and though it's available as a PS1 classic on PS3, there have been reports that PS3 and Vita games are becoming unplayable. At the very least, versions of the other Ivalice games are already available on modern consoles or mobile devices. Modern updates are only half the issue, however. A remake for Vagrant Story with new graphics and a little hand-holding could help reestablish it as one of Square Enix's best properties. So far, Tactics Ogre Reborn appears to be accessible for newcomers without diluting the original's mechanics. A remake has a lot to offer, as the same complexity can also make it difficult for new players looking to experience the original. With Matsuno teasing that a Vagrant Story 2 could be in development, now is the perfect time for a remake or remaster.Īs an old-fashioned action RPG, Vagrant Story's complex and customizable combat would appeal to SRPG fans while also feeling fresh in Square's crowded release schedule. Combat is balanced between chaining attacks to deal extensive damage, and a Risk factor that functions similarly to fatigue and negatively impacts Ashley's abilities. While modern action RPGs can sometimes end up repetitive or button-mashy, Vagrant Story's combat retains the sophistication that defines the combat of all the Ivalice games. Though it takes place in the same world as Tactics, Vagrant Story is an action RPG. Egg-laying usually occurs from February to March in the Northern Hemisphere, and from July to August in the Southern Hemisphere the Australian subspecies may breed as late as November, and equatorial populations may nest anytime between June and December. ![]() Cliff nests are generally located under an overhang, on ledges with vegetation. The female chooses a nest site, where she scrapes a shallow hollow in the loose soil, sand, gravel, or dead vegetation in which to lay eggs. Peregrine falcons nest in a scrape, normally on cliff edges. The male passes prey it has caught to the female in mid-air. Pairs perform courtship flight that includes a mix of aerial acrobatics, precise spirals, and steep dives. During the breeding season, these birds are territorial and nesting pairs are usually more than 1 km (0.62 mi) apart. A pair mates for life and returns to the same nesting spot annually. Peregrine falcons are monogamous breeders. Peregrine falcons are generally silent birds but when near the nest, they usually produce a rasping "kack-kack-kack-kack" call. Breeding pairs may hunt together and the female often catches larger prey. Peregrines may also surprise and ambush prey on the ground, and in rare cases even pursue the prey on foot. If they miss the initial strike, they will chase their prey in a twisting flight. If their prey is too heavy to carry, peregrines will drop it to the ground and eat it there. Prey is typically struck and captured in mid-air Peregrine falcons strike their prey with a clenched foot, stunning or killing it with the impact, then turn to catch it in mid-air. Once prey is spotted, these hunters begin their stoop, folding back the tail and wings, with feet tucked. Peregrines require open space for hunting and searching for prey either from a high perch or from the air. These birds are active during the day but hunt most often at dawn and dusk when prey are most active.
